“Information is a powerful tool…”

Premature ejaculation (also called PE, rapid ejaculation, rapid climax, premature climax, or early ejaculation) is a very common sexual problem and is usually reported by men under the age of 40. It is thought that 25% to 40% of men in the US experience this on a regular basis.

There are many causes and factors that contribute to premature ejaculation including biological, psychological and chemical / drug induced. Fortunately there are also many different methods used in stopping and/or controlling premature ejaculation.

Premature Ejaculation is broadly defined as  “the occurrence of ejaculation prior to the wishes of both sexual partners.”. This broad definition avoids specifying a precise duration for sexual intercourse and reaching a climax, which is different from person to person and depends on many factors specific to the individuals engaging in intimate relations.

For example, if a man regularly reaches orgasm in 10 minutes while it takes his partner 8 minutes to climax and both are satisfied with the experience PE would not be considered a problem. However if the man ejaculates after 10 minutes but his partner takes 15 minutes to achieve orgasm and both are left feeling guilty and/or unfulfilled then a problem might exist.

The effects of premature ejaculation on a sexual relationship can be disastrous. If left unattended it can  mean the end of the sexual relationship as well as the relationship as a whole.

PE can leave the man feeling guilty over his perceived inability to fulfill his partners sexual needs. Over time he may withdraw from sex altogether not wanting to disappoint his lover and also to avoid the feelings of guilt and disappointment. His partner may begin to feel unwanted and might cause her to withdraw from the relationship as well.  Over time these feelings can spill over into the regular day to day relationship and might eventually lead to a break up.
